Bayer – Ficam W and K-Orthrine partix

“This means that any stock held by distributors will have to be sold by June 8, but pest controllers are able to store and use the product until December 10, 2020,” said Alan Morris, Bayer’s head of environmental science.

“As the summer is the main activity period for most insects this use-up date is helpful to pest controllers, as they’ll be able to use the product to control a broad spectrum of insects up until the end of the year.”

The decision for Ficam W to be removed from the market was made in December last year, following a vote from the EU Biocide Commission.

Mr Morris said: “Ultimately, this product is a big loss to the industry after offering successful pest control for over 40 years. This is another reason why Bayer constantly invest in research and development of new chemistry, to continue to deliver solutions to customers for the future.”

He said that Bayer has recently launched an alternative solution, which will cover most scenarios where Ficam W would have been used.

“Our newly launched product, K-Othrine Partix is a broad-spectrum insecticide providing 12-weeks residual control of a broad spectrum of pests,” Mr Morris said. “The state-of-the-art formulation technology has allowed the active substance levels in the treatment environment to be reduced, while still offering a high level of control.”
